The Stability of Bacterial Viruses in Solutions of Salts
نویسنده
چکیده
1. The seven bacterial viruses of the T group, active against E. coli, are much more rapidly inactivated by heat when suspended in 0.1 N solutions of sodium salts than when suspended in broth. 2. The kinetics of this inactivation whether in salt solutions or in broth are those of a first order reaction. 3. The rate of inactivation of phage T5 in 0.1 N NaCl at 37 degrees C. can be greatly decreased by the addition of 10(-8)M concentrations of such divalent cations as Ca, Mg, Ba, Sr, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd, and Cu. 4. An increase in the cation concentration in the suspending medium results in an increase in the stability of phage T5 to the inactivating effects of temperature. 5. The hypothesis is proposed that the increase in stability of phage T5 in the presence of various cations is the result of complex formation between the phage and the metal ion.

The Effect of Temperature, pH, and Different Solubilizing Agents on Stability of Taxol
Inabilities to attain adequate aqueous solubility and stability have made the preparation of a clinically suitable formulation of taxol difficult. Addition of nicotinamide (ND), 2-hydroxypropyl- b-cyclodextrin (HPßCD), polyethylene glycol, (PEG), bile salts (BS, 50:50 sodium cholate: deoxycholate...
متن کاملImproving Thermal Stability of Starch in Formate Fluids for Drilling High Temperature Shales
Starch is one of the most widely used biopolymers in water based drilling fluids to control fluid loss. The thermal stability of starch in common drilling fluids is low (93 °C). In this study, the thermal stability of starch has been evaluated in sodium/potassium formate and potassium chloride fluids. Samples of mud were prepared by formate salts (sodium and potassium) and potassium chloride wi...

In this work attempts were made to evaluate K+-SDS and hydrocolloid polymer-SDS interactions in flocculation of megestrol acetate dispersions to enhancetheir stability as a part of suspension formulation. Different dispersions of micronized megestrol acetate and SDS were prepared. KCl and KH2PO4 and their corresponding sodium salts were added to the dispersions and the preparations were evaluat...

متن کاملInfluence of salts and natural organic matter on the stability of bacteriophage MS2.
The stability of functionalized nanoparticles generally results from both steric and electrostatic interactions. Viruses like bacteriophage MS2 have adopted similar strategies for stability against aggregation, including a net negative charge under natural water conditions and using polypeptides that form loops extending from the surface of the protein capsid for stabilization. In natural syste...
